A directed acyclic graph (DAG) is a conceptual representation of a series of activities. It’s a mathematical abstraction of a data pipeline. DAGs are a fundamental concept in the Spark execution model. They are “directed” because the operations are executed in a specific order, and “acyclic” because there are no loops or cycles in the execution plan.
DAGs are a tool to help you understand relationships between your data models and areas of improvement for your overall data. They are also used to communicate about causal questions in clinical and epidemiologic research.
